The Chats

I use Reddit a lot, but I don't get many new music recommendations from it. I find that the music posted is usually nostalgic stuff that I'm already familiar with - so many reposts of Deltron 3030  or Operation Ivy. These trips down memory lane are fun - especially the comment sections. Once in a while I do find something new though - The Chats "Smoko" is my favorite example of this.

That fucking mullet in the thumbnail got my attention immediately. Who are these dudes? Oh, they're Australians, doing throwback punk. This shit reminds me of The Angry Somoans, and I love it. It's catchy as fuck, and it popped back in to my head a few days ago  - thinking about the smoke and fires in Australia, and it reminded me of  "I'm on Smoko". Inappropriate, those fires are no joke, but it jogged my memory of this gem none the less. 

It got me to listen to their 2017 album "Get This In Ya". Holy shit, this is so good. I love finding "new" punk rock that I like - normally my punk listening is limited to mid-90s classic pop punk that I grew up on. This sounds so much like that. Makes me want to get in a pit. 7 songs, under 15 minutes. Reminds me kind of Pinhead Gunpowder in some ways.
